Previous Experience
This brief resume is designed to give you an idea of my experience trimming mangroves and removing exotic vegetation on the West Coast of Florida. I was the primary trimmer for some of the earliest mangrove trimming and exotic vegetation removal projects in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, and offer 30 years of successful mangrove trimming experience. When necessary I use an 18-foot outboard motorboat, with a 100 hp 4 stroke Yamaha engine, specifically designed and built for trimming mangroves.
My first large projects were in the 1970s. These included Mt. Vernon, in Bradenton (1/2 mile of shoreline), Lands End Development, Longboat Key (100 yards of shoreline), and Hideaway Bay, Longboat Key (1/4 mile of shoreline), to name a few of my earliest projects (circa 1975). On these projects I was the head trimmer and all of them were authorized by the DEP before the 1976 mangrove trimming rule was in effect.
Since then I have worked for many individual owners, and developers. The individual home owners are too numerous to list, but the developers are some of the biggest in our area – including designing and carrying out the trimming for Taylor Woodrow’s Queen’s Harbour (1/2 mile of shoreline) on Longboat Key and the Bay Isles Association (the master association for about 1/5 of Longboat Key). I have also trimmed for Mote Marine Laboratory and worked with the Longboat Key Town government, as well as Sarasota and Manatee Counties, with no violations in 30 years.
I graduated from New College and wrote a thesis titled Sarasota Bay Mangroves 1991: Past Alterations and Future Possibilities while studying under John Morrill, PHD.
